City name in link text for local website traffic?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

The other day I was looking for a picnic table to put on our back deck.  We have a nice deck, a barbecue and no where to sit and enjoy eating outside.  My wife said, “wouldn’t it be nice if we had a picnic table out here!”

Google search here I come.  I typed ‘picnic table‘ and got a list of websites that have a bunch of information, but that didn’t help me.  I wanted a local business with picnic tables that were not going to fall apart after I screwed in all of the quick secure bolts and I needed a great price.

I modified my Google search by adding the city and state ‘picnic table [city] [state]‘.  I found what I needed, several local businesses selling hand made picnic tables at incredibly low prices.

If my local searches include a city name and I have a web page that I am trying to get local traffic, shouldn’t the city name be included in the link text pointing to my web page?
