City name in link text for local website traffic?
Friday, June 19th, 2009The other day I was looking for a picnic table to put on our back deck. We have a nice deck, a barbecue and no where to sit and enjoy eating outside. My wife said, “wouldn’t it be nice if we had a picnic table out here!”
Google search here I come. I typed ‘picnic table‘ and got a list of websites that have a bunch of information, but that didn’t help me. I wanted a local business with picnic tables that were not going to fall apart after I screwed in all of the quick secure bolts and I needed a great price.
I modified my Google search by adding the city and state ‘picnic table [city] [state]‘. I found what I needed, several local businesses selling hand made picnic tables at incredibly low prices.
If my local searches include a city name and I have a web page that I am trying to get local traffic, shouldn’t the city name be included in the link text pointing to my web page?

Will the Saturn Dealer Network become king of right product at the right time?
Monday, June 8th, 2009Being a Saturn retailer may be an exciting opportunity now that Saturn is not building its own vehicles. Penske Automotive bought the Saturn Brand and the right to distribute vehicles through the Saturn dealer network. The Penske automotive group will be looking around the world for vehicles to sell in their new dealer network.
Does that mean Saturn Dealers may have the right vehicles at the right time more than other dealer networks?
Suppose the Penkse group recognizes a new trend in the market and makes a deal with a manufacturer in another country that currently produces a vehilce that meets that new trend. Will the saturn dealer network have those products available to sell quicker than dealers in the Toyota Dealer Network?
Social Media allows Car Dealers to earn a little more trust.
Sunday, June 7th, 2009Why does a car dealer need to earn trust with its community, customers and employees? I think that answer should be very obvious, the bigger question is how can a car dealer earn trust?
Traditionally customers are loyal to a dealership because of the vehicles they sell and the location is convenient. That may be a reason customers return to a dealer, but it does not build trust. Customer facing employees earn trust!. When a customer gets a phone call from their service writer before it was expected telling them their car is done, a little more trust is earned. When the salesperson resolves a concern with no questions the day after a new car was bought, a little more trust is earned. When a phone receptionist makes sure you get to the right person without lingering in phone hell, a little more trust is earned.
So, how does Social Media help a dealer earn a little more trust? “…it allows people to connect in the online world to form relationships for personal and business.” Social Media is a new way to communicate with customers and the community a dealer serves.
When a car dealer sponsors a local charity event and posts a link to the other businesses involved, a little more trust is earned. When a customer can recommend a dealer on their facebook page and the dealer submits a comment thanking them for the recommendation, a little more trust is earned. When a dealer posts why an employee was named “Employee of the Month”, a little more trust is earned.
What happens to a dealer when the community they serve trusts them? Everything becomes a little easier.
